OUTSOURCE MANAGEMENT
Near the beginning of Saint Row (reboot) we had a lay off that resulted in the environment team loosing folks, along with many other depts. I decided to switch over to outsourcing to build up a team that could tackle the heavy lifting in world building. That way the internal team could focus more on the POIs (Points of Interest) that required more attention to detail. I was concerned with relieving the pressures considering all the real-estate that needs to be covered.
Taken from my resume:
Led outsource team in world building
Trained artists in project vision, toolsets, and pipelines
Set visual standards for internal and external teams
Rapid prototyping and tech evaluations for large scale open world construction
Below are some of the ways I would provide feedback to the outsource group through a combination of paint overs and building city blocks along side them (see Saints Row in Worldbuilding section). I would mostly stay in editor and use that as a way to communicate any feedback. This sped up teaching workflows and also empowered them to see things in context. I would use the city block as a way to help solve issues or show esthetic thinking that they could easily see and apply to there own work. This was a constant through out the external and internal teams. This also included identifying structural and esthetic elements to order through the other outsourcing depts (structures, props, etc.) The screens from Saints Row (reboot) in my Worldbuilding section also demonstrate a lot of this work.
