World Building

I have been working exclusively in real-time game environments since 1997. Below is a mix of my own world building work, the influence of Tech Dev work, and leading external and internal artists.

Saints row (reboot)

While Agents of Mayhem was finishing up, I switch over to focusing on Saints Row 5 prototypes (first many images below). The core of that work was to push the engine, at scale, to find issues and limitations. This effort was to create a solid foundation for the rest of the team to land on once they joined on.

During that work we had a layoff that shrank a lot of our core teams.
With that being the new reality I switch over to working with the outsource group prepping an outsource team to help us build level/city blocks, so the internal team could focus on all the detailed intangibles of the world.

Below is some of those prototypes and screens of block work I did along with the final results in directing internal and outsource teams.

Agents of mayhem

Agents started out as being 3 cities, with team members dispersed accordingly. As I was prototyping Moscow ( 1 of the 3 ) it become obvious we were spread to thin.

With Seoul being the one further along we had a all hands on deck situation to help finish the one vs the three. Seoul was at maybe 60% and I was coming in to help push some areas that weren’t getting much traction that being The Campus and Fortress blocks. The Campus had the structures in place but the rest of the space was left up to me to design and implement.

The Fortress was more up in the air to what it should be with only a few small key design elements to build around. I designed and maintained any gameplay spaces that needed to be preserved.

Saints row the third

I started on this one as the guinea pig to test out a new world building editor before I had a health issue that put me back a bit. Once I returned the team was a ways into production. I started back doing some ground work and residential structures before I was asked to fix a large number of structures coming in from outsourcing.
